Every dollar spent at the Thrift & Vintage Shop goes back into the community through Assistance League of Long Beach, which funds 11 philanthropic programs, including Operation School Bell, an orthodontic program, CAMEO mentoring, scholarships, Launching Literacy and vocational training. The shop sells donated goods on a resale basis, not consignment. A band of magenta lettering runs across its front windows, and it is open six days a week, Sundays included.
Donations go to a donation center at the back of the building, reached through the alley. The shop does not accept baby gear such as car seats and cribs, electronics, mattresses and other bedding, chemicals, food, weapons, or magazines more than two months old. Higher-end pieces, including designer fashion, jewelry, collectibles and home décor, are sold through an online thrift shop.
