Open on weekdays and closed on weekends, the David G. James Thrift Shop operates inside the Wabash Valley Friendship Clubhouse in Vincennes, Indiana. All of its merchandise comes from donations, and the Clubhouse handles questions about giving items. The Clubhouse is a program of the Family Health Center.
The Clubhouse supports members living with mental illness and gives people whose lives have been disrupted by it a safe place to go. The shop serves that mission through employment: members take an active part in running a business and build skills they can carry into future jobs. Over the entrance, a blue-and-white sign pairs a drawing of a handshake with the motto "Caring & Compassion Counts."
