Prism Thrift has been diverting clothing from the landfill since August 2024, and it has kept more than 20,000 items out of it so far. The Lancaster shop is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that offers an LGBTQ+ affirming space built around sustainability, equity and self-expression through fashion and creative reuse. Its profits support local LGBTQ+ causes and organizations, and it also offers personal shopping and style bundles.
Donations are accepted whenever the store is open. It takes clothing, shoes, bags, accessories, paper shopping bags and jewelry, including broken or mismatched pieces. It always needs plus-size and masculine clothing. Students and educators get discounts on Thursdays, artists and makers on Fridays, and EBT and Medicaid holders every day. The store is open Sundays and into the evening, and a rolling rack of clothes sorted by color sits beneath its teal sign.
