Silk Purse Newton opened in 2022 to support the ministry of Family Life Center Newton. Family Life Center is a faith-based nonprofit founded in 1995. It offers practical help, education and support to women, men and families dealing with pregnancy, parenting and related issues. Every item on the shelves is donated, and the store's net proceeds go to that work.
The store carries clothing, shoes, accessories, decor, furniture, electronics, housewares, toys, books and linens. Children's picture books stand face-out on long tiered shelves, row after row. Silk Purse started in 2001, and the Newton store carries the same full range of goods as the original. It is open six days a week, stays open into the evening on weekdays and closes on Sundays.
