Every sale at Deming Helping Hand goes toward food commodities for low-income families. The nonprofit runs the thrift store to fund a monthly food distribution that serves roughly 50 to 72 households. It also works with several local organizations to reach more of the community.
Shoppers come for affordable secondhand goods, and the store depends on donations and volunteers to keep both the sales floor and the food program going. It has reached a number of milestones over the years in its work with families in need. The shop sits in a long, light blue metal building with a white sign over the entrance, in Deming, New Mexico. It is open on weekdays and closed on weekends.
