Working on a direct, person-to-person basis, the St. Vincent de Paul Society of San Francisco is a nonprofit that aims to break the cycles of homelessness and domestic violence in the city. Its domestic violence programs include drop-in support at the Riley Center Community Office, emergency shelter at Rosalie House, and transitional housing at Brennan House, where survivors and their children can stay for up to 24 months.
The doors are open seven days a week, with evening hours on at least one day. A large mural of the Statue of Liberty, painted with lines from Emma Lazarus's poem, covers the side of the building. The society's homeless services include the Division Circle Navigation Center and Multi-Service Center South, a shelter with more than 300 beds that serves hundreds of guests every day.
