Sales at The Council Shop fund NCJW|LA, and the organization's thrift shops cover more than 73 percent of its operating budget. Of every dollar raised, 84 percent goes to programs and services for women in Los Angeles. The first Council Shop opened in 1924 to serve immigrants arriving in the city, and it was stocked with household goods.
The store sells clothing, jewelry, furniture, art and accessories, all from donations. Some of the donated goods also go straight to people in need. A green Donation Center sign with orange arrows marks the drop-off entrance on the white brick building. The Council Shop is open on weekdays and closed on weekends.
