The Council Shop in Burbank raises money for NCJW|LA, which puts the profits back into programs that build financial resilience for women in Los Angeles. Sales from the shop make up more than 73% of the organization's operating budget. The store sells women's, men's and children's clothing, along with shoes, jewelry, housewares, books, records and some furniture. Its white building has a bright green sign that reads "Thrift Store & Donation Center."
The shop takes in-store donations of clothing, accessories, kitchen goods, home decor and furniture within set size limits every day of the week, and donors can also schedule a pickup from home. It doesn't accept food, mattresses, baby gear or large appliances. The doors are open seven days a week and stay open into the evening, and on Wednesdays shoppers 64 and older get a senior discount.
