Sales at the VCR Thrift Store bring in a significant share of the operating income for Vermilion Community Restoration, a Danville nonprofit that runs a men's shelter, a women and children's shelter, and a community kitchen. Donated furniture also goes to people moving out of those shelters, and there is an ongoing need for dressers, chairs and sofas. Volunteers and staff sort, clean, price and display the stock.
The shelves carry clothing in baby through adult sizes, household goods and decor, books, movies, toys, electronics, games and furniture. The store is open weekdays and closed on weekends. Donations are accepted only on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and items must be clean and in working condition. Larger pieces are taken case by case, and donors bring their own help to unload. Donations are tax deductible.
