Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Gary is an independently owned home improvement store and donation center. It sells building materials, appliances, new and used furniture, and home accessories. Habitat for Humanity of Northwest Indiana runs it, and all proceeds stay local to build Habitat homes. Each year the organization works to help four to eight families, veterans among them, reach lasting homeownership. Tall blue ReStore letters top the brick storefront, with a green house shape standing in for the O.
The store takes donations of goods for resale. Because Habitat for Humanity of Northwest Indiana is a verified 501(c)(3) nonprofit, those gifts are tax deductible. Regular customers can join the ReStore Rewards Program. The store is open five days a week, Tuesday through Saturday.
