Dozens of merchants fill the historic Miller Schoolhouse in Gary, Indiana, where Miller School Shops & Spaces runs as a creative community collaborative. Vendors sell art, vintage pieces, clothing, antiques, homemade goodies and healing treatments under one roof. The red brick former school is entered through bright red double doors set beneath an arched entryway.
Beyond shopping, the collaborative runs a community space that hosts classes, workshops and other events. There, visitors make crafts and learn new skills alongside people who share their interests. The old school also serves as a gathering place for the community, and the shops are open four days a week, Sundays included.
