Run by the San Jose Auxiliary for Children, a 501(c)(3) charitable corporation, the Thrift Box in San Jose is a resale store with an all-volunteer membership. Its volunteers accept and process donations, stock the shelves daily and help customers. The racks carry jewelry, designer women's clothing, casual wear, sportswear, men's apparel, footwear, collectibles, books, greeting cards, housewares, decor, art, children's clothing and toys. Racks of clothing run right up to the front window.
The store is open four days a week, Wednesday through Saturday, and it takes item donations on those same days. Customers are asked to bring their own reusable bags. The auxiliary's mission is to support the welfare of children treated at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford. Every sale funds the hospital's CARE FOR ALL program, which means no child is ever turned away for any reason.
