Friends of the Fatherless runs The Exchange, an Albuquerque thrift store whose proceeds fund programs for at-risk and abandoned children around the world, along with outreach to at-risk teens locally. The nonprofit's work includes providing meals through a network of children's homes, paying for wells in communities without clean water, and supporting teens who are in or aging out of foster care.
The store takes donations of used clothing and home goods, dropped off in person. Through a partnership with Joy Journeys, donated items also go into suitcases packed for missionaries and children's home directors, who take the clothing and supplies to children overseas. The Exchange is open six days a week and closed on Sundays.
