The AL Thrift Shop in Glendale, California, holds a bimonthly silent auction in the store. Selected unique items go on display for advance bidding, and a live auction follows on auction day. Volunteers of Assistance League of Glendale staff and manage the shop entirely, and its sales are the main source of funding for the chapter's eight philanthropic programs. Merchandise includes antiques, collectibles, clothing and shoes for men, women and children, baby clothes, books, toys, sporting goods, housewares, linens, home decor, seasonal items and jewelry.
The shop is open four days a week. Donations are accepted only during business hours at the iron gate beside the shop. There is no pickup service, and the shop does not take large furniture, bicycles, helmets, child safety devices, medical supplies, broken electronics or torn or stained clothing.
